Ajman: Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi honours orthopedic specialists at GMU

Media Release

Ajman, Mar 18: Osteoarthritis pain is one of the most common problems for orthopaedic surgeons as well family practitioners around the world – Expert

Leading experts from all over UAE discussed various issues related to Orthopedics during the National Conference on Updates in Orthopedics, which was organized by the Department of Orthopedics, GMC Hospital Ajman at GMU Campus in Ajman on March 16.

Delivering a talk on total knee arthroplasty – specifically in Asian knees, Dr Shaher Hasanain orthopedic surgeon, American Hospital Dubai said that ‘Medical literature has documented some unique features of the Asian knee’. We believe that there are systemic, anatomical, and functional features that are unique in Asian patients.”

“Activities of daily living in Asians require high flexion and surgeons should always strive to obtain better flexion and use implants which are friendlier to flexion. Most patients submit to surgery at advanced stage which makes surgery more challenging, requiring less bone resection and more soft tissue release,” felt Dr Hasanain.

Dr Chris Whately medical director, Medcare Orthopedics and Spine Hospital, Dubai said that Osteoarthritis pain is one of the most common problems for orthopaedic surgeons as well family practitioners around the world.

“The advantages of Intralaminar minimally invasive discectomy are the same as those for discectomy but the immediate postoperative effects are reduced allowing a more rapid rehabilitation and return to previous activities. Reduced size of incision also represents an aesthetic advantage,” said professor Seyed Mohsen Mahmoodi.

MISS’ option for lumbar DDD by Dr Zbiggy J Brodzinsky, senior consultant Orthopaedic spinal surgeon, DBAJ, skin covers in hand professor Vijay Y. Gawande, orthopedic surgeon Prime Medical Center, arthroscopy – principles and its role in orthopedic surgeries, Dr Mohammed Zakeer Ahmed, orthopedic surgeon, GMC Hospital Fujairah were the other topics covered during the conference.

Over 150 doctors, medics and nurses participated in the event which was accredited by Ministry of health for 6 CME Hrs.
